What Causes Chronic or Dry Cough?
TryCough Elixir Mix
Cough is one of the reflexes that the body resorts to protect itself, which can occur voluntarily or involuntarily, just like the opening and closing of the eyelids. It helps to remove foreign substances, dust, germs or viruses in the respiratory tract out of the body.
Cough is also a signal transmitter about our body. For example, irritation of the airways due to respiratory infections can cause coughing. The cough may be with or without phlegm.
What is Dry Cough?
If there is no phlegm (medically known as mucus) in the throat along with the cough, it is called a dry cough. Being in dusty, stuffy environments and being exposed to cigarette smoke can also trigger a dry cough.
What Causes Dry Cough?
A dry cough can be quite irritating. It usually occurs in winter or in cold weather. Respiratory tract infections caused by viruses are among the most well-known causes of dry cough. Other causes include allergies, particles in the air that can irritate the throat, and breathing dry air for long periods of time. The side effects of some medications can also cause a dry cough.
What Should Be Considered in Dry Cough?
Cough associated with a cold can last up to 3 weeks. It can be expected that the cough will go away on its own, but not every cough will go away on its own. Young children are the most affected by cough, which can be seen especially due to respiratory tract infections.
